With an innovative approach blending respect for the past and celebration of the present.
Doraku Sushi takes a modern approach to the art of sushi with an innovative approach blending respect for the past and celebration of the present. Modeled after an Izakaya (Japanese gastropub), the indoor/outdoor restaurant and bar mixes delicious food and artisanal cocktails in a lively and upbeat atmosphere. Guests can choose from a variety of sushi with vegan and vegetarian options available, as well as a wide selection of grilled items.
With an emphasis on quality, Doraku Sushi chefs carefully select fish for sushi and sashimi (sliced raw fish) from both local and global markets. The center of an Izakaya experience is sake. Doraku Sushi has one of the most extensive collections in the United States, including their signature Aoki Junmai Gingo, an unpasteurized premium sake made with mountain water from Niigata, Japan.
Whether guests stop in for lunch, happy hour, dinner, or a late-night bite, it is the commitment to service and attention to detail that makes the Doraku Sushi experience live up to its name: “the road to happiness.” Welcome to Doraku Sushi.

Izakaya Japanese Dining
Welcome to our Izakaya, otherwise known as a Japanese gastropub. It is a place to share stories with friends, unwind after work, or just eat and drink good food. 始めに
Our Restaurant’s Story
Not so long ago sushi and teriyaki chicken defined Japanese food in America. In large part I credit my dad Rocky Aoki. As the founder of Benihana he brought Japanese food to the world. But times have changed and so has the sophistication of our palates. Today, customers expect authentic flavors, fresh quality ingredients, and dishes that reflect a high level of craftsmanship and artistic detail.
4 Locations and Growing…
Every story has a place and every place has a story. We now have 4 restaurants and growing. Our flagship location opened in 1999 at the Lincoln Road Promenade and continues to stand strong for over 20 years. We’ve then expanded into Hawaii with our Waikiki location opening in 2008 and soon thereafter our Kaka’ako location in 2012. After quickly gaining popularity, Aoki Group announced their 3rd Hawaii location in Kapolei opening Summer 2022.
Moving Forward
Our Commitment
The center of the Izakaya experience is sake and since no meal would be complete without sake, Doraku Sushi has one of the most extensive collections of sake in the United States. Each year we travel to Japan to hand- select new varieties of artisanal sake (known in Japanese as Jizake) from local microbreweries. Featuring in all locations, is our private label Aoki Junmai Ginjo Nama Zume sake bottled and manufactured in Niigata, Japan. From an early lunch to late at night it is the commitment to quality and attention to detail that makes the Doraku Sushi experience live up to its name: “the road to happiness.”
Blended Cultures
Fusion and Traditional
The menu is grounded in the use of traditional ingredients and flavors. Our master chefs draw out the flavors of each ingredient using sauces and techniques that have been passed down through the generations. Doraku Sushi has an uncompromising standard of excellence such as the careful selection of fish for our sushi from local and global markets, where it is immediately packed in ice and sent daily to our restaurants.
